A proposal for an installation composed of scent emitting mannequins.
This project is a response to a competition for a “pop-up” store for designer Siki Im during New York’s Fashion Week. The site is under the Highline. The project engages olfactory senses to heighten the experience of the clothes. The proposal is an installation composed of scent emitting mannequins, that release the smells of the users/shoppers within the given environment. Seats placed within the site harness the scent of the various users, transporting the smell through duct-work, to the mannequins. The scents are then released into the air through the clothed mannequins. The user of the seat inhabits the clothing through smell. The experience of the material becomes heightened through the experience of the immaterial.
